Sometimes, they take an author places they have not yet seen but can only feel through the characters until one day the author finally gets to see the place where the characters existed and exist. It almost feels like one has a bunch of relatives in town ready and waiting. The Hand of Destiny was a special book to pen down. I was fearful of not meeting my characters on my first visit to the Paris. But, there they were right from the time I landed, and in the various places I have been going to or passing by, an integral part of the city if one knows them. I saw Paris first through the eyes of my characters. That feeling has only increased not decreased after seeing the city in its various moods in reality. It is the most humbling, inspiring and moving experience for a writer to feel her characters have made a new city feel like a second home to her. No words to express my gratitude to Venkat, Jonas, Rajalakshmi, Kathy, James, Meenakshi Sundaram and all the others in the book. - SS
